About Alta Fox Labs

Alta Fox Labs is the quantitative research and technology arm supporting the Alta Fox Opportunities Fund. Our work spans three core areas:

  • Portfolio Support & Analytics. We serve as a research partner to the portfolio manager and fundamental analyst team, identifying areas of strength and weakness through rigorous quantitative analysis and building tools designed to improve core fund performance.

  • Risk Management. We design and deploy custom factor hedges, working closely with the portfolio manager to monitor and address outsized factor exposures. This involves constructing bespoke hedge baskets tailored to the fund's specific risk profile rather than relying on off-the-shelf solutions.

  • Alpha Factor Research. We develop proprietary alpha factors using fundamental data and alternative data sources. These models support the research team in identifying high- and low-quality businesses and carry the potential to operate as standalone systematic investment strategies.

Role Overview

Location: Stamford, CT (in-person)

We are seeking a Software Developer with a strong foundation in full-stack development and genuine curiosity about how software can support investment research. You'll work under Miles Child, who leads quantitative research, risk, and software development for Alta Fox Labs, helping to maintain, extend, and improve the software and database systems he has built – including tools that support our quantitative research and risk management work – as well as build new tools from scratch. Existing finance knowledge and interest is a plus, but substantial finance knowledge is not required – you'll have the opportunity to grow into that side of the role over time as you take on more scope. We're looking for someone who is self-directed, detail-oriented, and highly efficient with a desire to work as part of a small team and to grow into a broader ownership role over time.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Full-stack development experience, with proficiency in across the T3 stack (TypeScript, React/Next.js, tRPC, Prisma, Tailwind) as well as Python, SQL, and Bash

  • Demonstrated full-stack development experience using TDD – we want to hear about specific webapps you've built and deployed

  • Comfort working with relational databases and writing production-quality SQL

  • Enough professional experience to work independently and confidently extend a live, in-production codebase built by another engineer – this is not an entry-level role

  • Experience with AI engineering, LLM tooling, or workflow automation. We’re looking for someone who has used the OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar API to build an agentic workflow for process automation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with the T3 stack specifically (Next.js, TypeScript, tRPC, Prisma)

  • Exposure to AWS and DevOps/CI-CD practices

  • Experience with Airflow or a similar technology

  • Interest in financial markets, quantitative investing, fundamental equity research, or other data-driven/quantitative domains (e.g., sports betting, sports analytics)
